Aromatherapy skin care products can soothe the body and mind

Aromatherapy skin care products, made with all natural ingredients, can have wonderful therapeutic benefits, promoting both physical and psychological well being.  For example, lavender oil is often used for it's relaxing qualities.  Aromatic essential oils have been used for centuries in skin care preparations.  For example, brides in Arabian countries have been traditionally massaged before the wedding ceremony with a body oil made from a blend including neroli, rose and jasmine oil.
Aromatherapy massage oils can be made following easy recipes.  A few drops of each pure essential oil are blended together, then diluted with a carrier oil.

Carrier oils are used as a base to allow the highly concentrated plant essences to be safely applied to the skin.  Undiluted aromatherapy essential oils can cause adverse reactions on sensitive skins, so should always be mixed with a cold-pressed vegetable oil before using in skin care products.  Grapeseed oil is used by many aromatherapists, and jojoba oil is another favorite, as it is easily absorbed by the skin.  Natural oils and waxes, such as shea butter, can be used for making soap or face cream with organic aromatherapy oils, and can leave the skin feeling smooth and soft.

Pure essential oils can be also be used to make aromatherapy bath salt.  When added to warm bath water, the heat activates the aroma molecules, releasing not just their fragrance, but their healing properties.  It's important to be aware that oils from some aromatic plants have been known to cause irritation to sensitive skin, and are best used with caution when making skin care blends.  These include peppermint, basil and lemongrass essential oil.  Certain oils should also be avoided during pregnancy, and if in doubt the advice of a professional aromatherapist should be sought.
