Lemon essential oil - Refreshing and powerful!

Lemon essential oil, also known by its botanical name citrus limonum, has a zesty, lemony fragrance, and has several healing aromatherapy benefits.  Lemon oil has therapeutic restorative and antidepressant qualities, and can is also used by aromatherapists to treat a variety of physical conditions.  A few drops of this aromatherapy oil can be used neat or diluted in a carrier oil to treat boils, cold sores, insect bites and eczema.  This pure essential oil can also be diluted and used as an antiseptic mouthwash to soothe a sore throat.

Lemon essential oil has antiviral and antibacterial properties.  Used either singularly on in blends with other oils, lemon can be used in aromatherapy massage oils and other skin care products.  When absorbed into the bloodstream, the aroma molecules can be effective in relieving the pain of menstrual cramps, reducing migraines and tension headaches and soothing the digestive system.  A few drops of this lemony scented essential oil added steaming bath water can stimulate and uplift.  In aromatherapy recipes its often blended with rosemary, peppermint or frankincense oil, among others.

Because of its powers of focusing the mind, this essential oil can be also be used as an aid to improve memory and concentration, either by placing a couple of drops on a tissue or using an aromatic roll on stick on pulse points.  Aromatherapists caution against using lemon oil on the skin if it's going to be exposed to sunlight or UV lights.  Like many natural aromatherapy essential oils, lemon can cause irritation to sensitive skin,  especially as it ages and becomes oxidized.  Aromatherapists recommend using this pure plant essence within 6 months of purchase.
