Lemongrass oil - Uplifting and balancing!

Lemongrass oil, cymbopogon citratus or c. flexuosus, not only has a powerful lemony fragance, it has numerous healing qualities.  Pure essential oils extracted from certain aromatic plants have been used throughout history to promote health and well being.  Lemongrass essential oil is no exception.  This stimulating aromatherapy oil is used by aromatherapists for its therapeutic benefits in treating a number of emotional and physical conditions.  It can be used in a variety of ways in the home, from perfuming bath water to adding fragrance to a room.

Burned in an aromatherapy oil burner or evaporated in another type of diffuser, lemongrass oil releases its strong, zesty aroma into the air.  As well as being a good natural air freshener and insect repellent, inhaling the aroma molecules can help induce uplifting and calming feelings.  In aromatherapy recipes, lemongrass is often used in essential oil blends with other oils, such as frankincense or lavender oil, for maximum healing effects. Aromatherapists advise buying high quality essential oils from reputable suppliers to ensure purity and effectiveness.

Lemongrass oil is often used in aromatherapy skin care products as it has toning and detoxifying properties, though it can cause irritation in sensitive skin and shouldn't be applied to skin that's going to be exposed to sun or UV light.  Diluted with a carrier oil and used in an aromatherapy massage oil, it can be used to help reduce the appearance of cellulite.  It has mild disinfectant qualities, and like tea tree oil, a few drops can be used in water to use as a natural cleaning agent for household surfaces.  Lemongrass pure essential oil is also a natural antiseptic and can be used on fungal conditions.
