Used in aromatherapy diffusers its stimulating fragrance can work as an expectorant to ease coughs, sore throats, catarrh and sinusitis. When inhaled into the body, peppermint's therapeutic aroma molecules stimulate the brain, helping to reduce mental fatigue and nervous stress.

Used in a bath or in an aromatherapy massage oil, peppermint oil can soothe stomach cramps, relieve the discomfort of indigestion, flatulence and diarrhea and alleviate nauseous feelings. It can be a useful first aid kit standby, especially when traveling, as a few drops on a handkerchief or tissue or added to a porous clay pot diffuser can help ward off travel sickness.
