How organic aromatherapy oils can benefit body, mind and the environment

Organic aromatherapy oils are, by definition, pure essential oils extracted from plants that have been grown without the use of pesticides.  Many aromatherapists believe that oil from organically grown plants has even greater therapeutic qualities than non-organic aromatherapy oil.  Many people think that the aromas from organic oils are more fragrant and powerful as well.  There are concerns that the use of pesticides can leave traces of these artificial chemicals in the distilled plant essence, thus affecting the purity of an oil.  An organic essential oil should be totally natural and free from any manmade chemical.

Stores selling organic essential oils online should be willing to provide consumers with information on the methods of production used to produce their aromatherapy oils, including the country of origin and the distillation process.  A true organically produced aromatic oil should be certified as such by a recognized regulatory body that ensures organically grown products meet strict standards.  Therapeutic grade essential oils that have been grown organically will have been farmed in a more sustainable way, which has benefits for wildlife and the natural environment, which can be harmed by toxic chemicals used in conventionally farming.

Organic carrier oils can also be purchased online, for use in aromatherapy skin care products, including aromatherapy massage oils. For the most beneficial effects on the skin, a carrier or base oil should be cold pressed to preserve the natural vitamins and minerals.  Organically grown olive, almond and jojoba oil are widely used by aromatherapists.  Because more care goes into producing aromatic plants without the use of pesticides, organic aromatherapy oils are more expensive.  However, many people believe that the higher prices are worth paying for these high quality essential oils, which have benefits for both the natural environment, the body and mind.
