What is rose essential oil good for?

Rose essential oil has many therapeutic qualities and is used in aromatherpy for both physical and emotional healing.  Rose-otto oil, rosa damascena in Latin, is extracted from fresh rose petals by steam distillation.  This pure essential oil is one of the most expensive of all the aromatherapy oils.  Rose absolute, or rosa centifolia, is cheaper, and obtained by solvent extraction.  This aromatic plant essence has a sweet, floral fragrance similar to roses, and is used in both aromatherapy skin care products and in diffusers.

Rose essential oil is a natural sedative and antidepressant.  It's commonly used to induce feelings of calm and contentment.  Vaporized in essential oil burners or other types of diffuser, rose oil can be used to treat a number of emotional and stress related issues, including insomnia, anxiety and postnatal depression.  Rose aromatherapy oil has aphrodisiac qualities and can be effective at treating a low libido and impotence.  It's a popular ingredient in aromatherapy bath products, or alternatively a few drops of the undiluted oil can be used instead.

Rose-otto essential oil is often used in blends to make soothing aromatherapy massage oils.  Diluted in a carrier oil and applied to the body, rose can relieve symptoms of PMS, nausea and constipation.  It can be used to soothe puffy, chapped or itchy skin and can be a good rejuvenating tonic for aging skins.  Rose can also be used to regulate appetite.  Like several therapeutic grade essential oils, rose should be avoided in the first three months of pregnancy or for the duration if there's a history of miscarriage.  It's one of many organic essential oils that can be purchased from online suppliers.
