What's sandalwood oil used for?

Sandalwood oil, santalum album, has several therapeutic uses in both physical and emotional healing.  Sandalwood has been used throughout history by different cultures for its powerful fragrance.  For example, as early as the 9th century, it was used for embalming princes in Ceylon.  Also, it's mentioned in the oldest Vedic scripture, as long ago as the 5th century BC, and continues to be a key aromatic ingredient in Indian spiritual rituals.  This pure aromatherapy oil has a rich, balsamic, woody aroma that warms and soothes.

Sandalwood oil has expectorant and decongestant abilities.  When inhaled, the aroma molecules can ease dry coughs, bronchitis, catarrh and sore throats.  A few drops of sandalwood essential oil can be added to bath water to relieve a number of skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, acne and cracked or inflamed skin.  This therapeutic grade essential oil can be used to help alleviate urinary infections such as cystitis and urethritis.  Used in aromatherapy diffusers, the fragrance of sandalwood can help reduce nervous tension and stress, having a soothing and uplifting effect.

Like many organic essential oils, sandalwood is used by aromatherapists to promote psychological well being and to dissipate unhealthy emotions.  This fragrant oil can be used in a massage oil to promote feelings of serenity and inner peace.  It has powerful harmonizing qualities, as well as being a natural aphrodisiac.  It can be purchased either in standard 10ml aromatherapy bottles or in bulk from many online suppliers that can ensure the purity and quality of their oils.
